GeoGarage = web hosting for your maps and orthophotos + simple and efficient multiplatform viewer E-mail
Written by Glenn Letham (GISuser editor)
03 May 2007
According to the developers of this interesting app., GeoGarage is claimed to be the first geospatial images web server compatible with Google Maps and Google Earth. Actually Geogarage is a software service used for interactive mapping
publishing and targeted to organisms which have data but don't know  how to publish them. Two viewing options are made available: a Google Maps API based viewer and a Flash Version... The service uses Quadtrimage(R) Technology.

The company's mission is to integrate digital mapping data (maps, orthophotos,
in any formats) to provide web hosting and to diffuse them in ASP
mode, storing huge geographical documents and displaying the images
with raster tiles technology.

The Google Maps API based viewer is easy to use. Inserting a Google Maps viewer with GeoGarage data in a web page is really simple : only a few html line code is needed. For people interested in having a specific viewer, Geogarage
also provides unbranded web mapping viewer based on a Flash viewer.

Features:

  • quick setup - interactive maps online in a couple of days
interactive map provided as a:  Flash plug-in, Google Maps plug-in,
    or Google Earth kml file
  • easy to install inside your Internet website (MIS supplies a few lines of html code to insert in the webpage containing the plugin) : so no revolution in the architecture of your existing website
  • the user can quickly move on the map or the aerial picture, magnifying without waiting time
  • compatibility with all types of client environment : Windows, Linux or Mac OS
nature of digital mapping : vectorial (from GIS) or raster (orthophotos)
  • multiple input formats : wavelet compression (MrSID, ECW, JPEG200), raster (JPEG, PNG, TIFF...), vectorial (SHP, TAB, DXF, PDF...)
  • no limitation in the size of the data
  • attractive price : affordable cost for small structures (no license)
    no technical maintenance
  • data protection

Users will find different examples applications on the company website including one  of them based on coastal orthophotos of the French littoral (better
quality than the Geoportail images
) is composed of more of 3 millions
small raster tiles.

The Technology -- Quadtrimage®, an efficient web navigation technology for raster images and its geographical extension Quadtrimageo® related to georeferenced documents (maps and orthophotos). Quadtrimageo® technology is built on a modular architecture based on open source tools and spatial database.
