MapZone... the Cool Place to Learn About Maps!  E-mail
Written by GISuser

Developed by the UK Ordnance Survey, the MapZone offers young visitors homework help (in English and Welsh) as well as a teacher zone and parent zone. Users will find games, tutorials, teacher resources, competitions, trivia, and geography/GIS facts.

More advanced GIS concepts are delivered via a section called "The GIS Files". In depth information about scanning, digital data capture, and remote sensing are covered in this intermediate-level edu resource.

The gamezone offers an impressive collection of Geo-Jigsaw puzzles and other geo-centric games and puzzles.

In a related announcement, The Ordnance Survey has announced the return of the popular Free Maps for 11 year olds scheme for autumn 2004. All schools with pupils in Year 7/Primary 7 will be eligible to apply to receive 1 free 1:25 000 Explorer map for every pupil in that year group.

For you geographers and GIS enthusiasts who are also parents, this is likely one of the finest educational geography resources you'll find... and it's loads of fun too - Make sure you let the kids have a turn too!
