Eighth Annual Geospatial Technology Report  E-mail
Written by Glenn Letham (GISuser editor)
25 January 2007
The Geospatial Information Technology Association (GITA) has just released the results of their eighth annual Geospatial Technology Report. The 149-page report contains detailed information on the complexity, direction, and completeness of geographic information system (GIS) projects being implemented at 386 organizations.

"The information contained in the 2006 Geospatial Technology Report is more valuable than ever before. With a record-breaking 386 participants—a 31% increase over the previous edition’s number—the sheer volume of information about geospatial projects is unprecedented in the report’s history." (Susan Ancel, President, GITA)

Readers will find many new additions to this year’s report, including Department of Labor statistics, benchmarking information from GITA’s Industry Trends Analysis Group, and many other improved features
from years’ past. In addition, the report’s surveys became significantly easier to fill out—especially for past participants. The easy-to-use online survey saves basic company information, so that year after year, each company’s survey needs only to be updated with new numbers.

This year marks the eighth year for the annual Geospatial Technology Report, the only study to independently survey technology users for detailed project information across the full spectrum of GIT users. The Industry Trends Analysis Group (ITAG) of the Geospatial Information & Technology Association (GITA) originally intended this study to be a tool for information exchange and for the education of GITA’s membership.

The report, provided free of charge to users who completed surveys that provided the data, is available for $299 for GITA individual members and $449 for nonmembers. If you are an end user and did not participate in the survey this year, you are encouraged to
get your free copy of the 2007 report by filling out a survey for your company next spring.

GITA Report

Copies of the report may be ordered online at GITA’s Web site, www.gita.org, or by contacting GITA headquarters at 303-337-0513 - more details here
