Free Orbit Explorer 4.1 for 64 bit–Windows, Linux, Unix  E-mail
Written by ORBIT Geospatial Technologies
16 October 2006
October 16th, 2006 – ORBIT Geospatial Technologies announces the release of Orbit Explorer 4.1 for Windows, Linux and Unix Orbit Geospatial Technologies presents the free Orbit Explorer 4.1 and Orbit Explorer Plus for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows, 32-bit and 64-bit Linux and most Unix platforms

Orbit Explorer 4.1 is the free viewing, consulting, inspection and annotation tool from the Orbit GIS family of desktop products. It is now available for all Windows and Linux, Unix platforms.

Orbit Explorer provides equal consulting capabilities on each of these platforms, allowing to access local file-based resources, Multiresolution imagery (e.g. the Orbit portable OMI image format), or remote servers.

Orbit Explorer Plus is the very low cost extendible viewer, which adds additional tools such as querying and plug-in capabilities for extensions.

The Linux/Unix version of Orbit Explorer (Plus) is equal in features and performance to it’s Windows peer. Only limitations are the use of 3rd party drivers that are not supported on these platforms by these parties.

“By presenting our free Orbit Explorer 4.1 on all Windows and Linux/Unix platforms, we open equal viewing, consulting, querying and annotation capabilities to all users on Windows and Linux PC’s.”, says Peter Bonne, product manager of Orbit GT. “Having release Orbit GIS 4.1 for these platforms, the free Orbit Explorer 4.1 makes our desktop GIS release schedule complete for Windows and Linux. Support for Mac OSX will be announced soon.”

Orbit Explorer natively supports a wide range of vector and raster data, up to terabytes of imagery including Orbit’s platform independent OMI format, that can replace the Windows-based formats SID and ECW. A free conversion utility comes with Orbit GIS 4.1.

Orbit Explorer is aimed for novice and experienced GIS users, and can offer local and remote data consulting for all employees in small offices and large enterprises. Combined with the Enterprise Orbit Server EOS or the web mapping solution Orbit FlashMap, Orbit Explorer is a perfectly integrated tool designed in portable technology Java.

Orbit Geospatial Technologies is bound to deliver highly integrated spatial software, from low to high end applications. The Orbit technology comes with a wide range of API’s to access the central toolkit and build extensions on any level of the system: user interface, desktop, internet, server, database.
