A New Certificate in Geospatial Intelligence Posted on July 03, 2007 The popular Penn State University has recently added to their growing portfolio of geospatial education programs - enter the Post baccalaureate Certificate in Geospatial Intelligence offered by the school's Department of Geography in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences. This program is idea for working professionals who need to apply their GIS skills to national security, disaster response, environmental response, and industrial settings. This 14 credit program consists of five online courses offered on a semester schedule along with a final course that offers a chance to take a virtual field experience. Of note, all of credits earned in the Penn State Certificate programs can be applied towards a master's degree (PSU does offer a Masters in GIS).

Algonquin College, Ottawa Ont., has been offering for three years now a one year Graduate Program in GIS - this comes after decades of undergraduate offerings in GIS and surveying.
This program is a one-year course of study (three consecutive terms) designed to introduce GIS technologies and concepts to individuals who have previously obtained a degree or diploma in a related field. Courses may be offered in the classroom or lab, entirely on-line, or in a hybrid mode which combines classroom sessions with on-line learning activities.

I just remembere that this week the Coastal Ecosystems Research Foundation is hosting this immersion week in geospatial sciences and marine biology in San Ignacio Lagoon, Mexico. The workshop includes 2 days of instructor led training covering an "Introduction to ArcGIS 9", using ESRI training materials and taught by an ESRI authorized instructor. The course also includes data collection in the lagoon and the opportunity to learn how to use some of the tools used by marine mammal scientists. More opportunities like this are available later this year.
Norad Santa - 50 Years of Tracking Santa on Christmas Eve Posted on December 21, 2005 Using the North Warning System, a system of 47 radar system installations across Canada's North, NORAD will once again track the movements of Santa Claus as he sets out on his journey around the Globe on Christmas eve. NORAD uses four high-tech systems to track Santa - radar, satellites, Santa Cams and jet fighter aircraft. This year NORAD celebrates 50 years of tracking Santa... congrats to the Colorado Springs-based NORAD crew and volunteers at Cheyenne Mountain and Peterson Air Force Bases on doing a fantastic job! Note: the site is published in 6 languages for all to enjoy.
