Diamond Data Systems, Inc. - Lessons Learned from Hurricane Katrina

Last year, the Enterprise for Innovative Geospatial Solutions (EIGS) featured a spotlight on a company, Diamond Data Systems, Inc., who [much luck countless others] had suffered severe setbacks as a result of Hurricane Katrina. Overnight, DDS essentially went from being a “local” to a “national” company after Hurricane Katrina. Employees were temporarily spread out throughout the country in Virginia, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, D.C., and elsewhere. The experiences of Diamond Data Systems, Inc. are an amazing example or determination and resolve.
 

Mapping Northeast Utilities Underground Network

It’s difficult to appreciate the danger and frustration that underground workers face in their daily tasks.  Imagine going to work in the middle of the street where you need cones and a barrier for protection, and maybe even a policeman: where you need to test the manhole cover for stray voltage and the air for dangerous gases.  This article takes a closer look at the challenges faced by a major utility in mapping their underground network.

The 2006 National Spatial Data Infrastructure Cooperative Agreement Program (CAP)

Under the latest agreement, a total not to exceed $1,150,000 is available for funding innovative geospatial projects - in particular, those affecting the geospatial data community. Award notification will be made on or about March 1, 2006.
