Going Wireless With Your Mobile Devices; It doesn't have to be confusing
Posted on October 20, 2005
Eliminate the confusion. When I first heard the terms Infrared, BlueTooth, and Wi-Fi my eyes began to glaze over. I felt like I'd wandered into some technological maze. I didn't know whether I should use an Infrared port on my PDA and mobile phone or BlueTooth. All I wanted to do was transfer data from one device to the next.

Posted on October 04, 2005
Recently at the CTIA Wireless IT & entertainment conference in San Francisco, CA. Navteq and sponsors kicked off the 2005/2006 Global LBS Challenge. What makes this year’s event special is the “doubling” of the challenge to include a North American and European challenge. A Look at Core Changes In The Series 60 Platform 3rd Edition
Posted on October 05, 2005
Series 60 Platform 3rd Edition Series 60 Platform 3rd Edition builds on Series 60 Platform 2nd Edition, extending existing technologies and capabilities plus providing access to many new ones. Series 60 3.x is built on top of Symbian OS v9.1, which provides some new challenges for Series 60 developers— partially because it is not backwards compatible with earlier versions of the platform.

Posted on September 28, 2005
During a recent flight, included with my carry on luggage was a copy of “Fun With GPS”, a relatively new publication from ESRI press by Don Cooke. The author is the founder of GDT, recently acquired by Tele Atlas, and has an extensive resume, including having played a key role in the creation of TIGER.

Wireless Location Uses in the User Plane and Control Plane
Posted on June 27, 2005
Two years ago, an industry journalist asked me in an interview where the wireless location-based services market would be in 2005.  My reply then was “I hope we are better off than we are now.  Enterprises and governments are poised to make great things happen if we can solve the location availability problem, as well as the carrier business model issues.”  It’s now 2005, most obstacles cited in the interview have been overcome to a greater degree, and the market is much better off.

The Brains of Smart Phones; What is the new operating system for Treo & Blackberry like?
Posted on May 26, 2005
When I prepared to look into the new smart phones I kept thinking these operating systems are like the brains of the phone. Like the old adage, I wondered if it is a no-brainer. Would I know which smart phone to use? Or would I favor a particular operating system?  What I've learned is that the technology on the OS side is advancing faster than the available devices in the marketplace.

My PDA's Tougher, Than Yours... Why? Because it's Got Armor
Posted on May 19, 2005
If you have a PDA ask yourself a very important question. Is it safe from unforseen hazards on the road? When I asked myself this same question the answer scared me. NO, it's not protected. It's why I've taken steps to make my PDA as tough as possible. Let's face it, like Murphy's Law if something can go wrong, it will. Instead of waiting for the accident to happen I assumed it would and imagined the panic that would ensue without my PDA. That was enough to scare me into action.
