MAJOR PROJECTS
FutureGen
I was the GIS Lead on the EIS for the DOE to evaluate the impacts of a state-of-the-art clean coal power plant that would capture and sequester its’ resulting CO2 emissions in a deep geologic formation. My specific roles included support for GPS and remote data analysis, figure design, including custom symbol sets for subcontractors, in the areas of cultural resources, traffic and transportation, air quality, noise and vibration, public health and safety, aesthetics and visual impacts, and socioeconomic resource areas.
Yucca Mountain Proposed Repository
I was the GIS Lead on the EIS for the DOE to evaluate various new rail routes to connect existing Union Pacific railroad with the proposed nuclear waste repository at Yucca Mountain. My role included support for hydrological modeling, proximity calculation implementing custom Visual Basic .NET GUI within wetlands, floodplains, biological resources, soils, and geology, Quickbird imagery overlay and analysis, figure creation using ArcMap and Illustrator, 50 gigabyte geospatial database design, and quality assurance and quality control protocols for surface water resources and physical settings sections. My managerial role was as liaison between the DOE and subcontractors.
San Diego Healthcare System
I was the GIS Lead on the EA for the Department of Veterans Affairs for the prevention and countermeasure of oil and hazardous substance spills in order to meet Clean Water Act requirements. My GIS support including hazardous-sites proximity analysis using GPS data, and Landsat imagery overlays, with maps made using ArcMap and Photoshop.
Fort Richardson; Alaska
I was the GIS Lead on the EA for the Army on the management of Nike Site Summit, a listed historic district on the National Register of Historic Places due to its’ contribution to the Nike Hercules program and its role in the Cold War. I developed GIS data adhering to “Spatial Data Standard for Facilities, Infrastructure, and Environment” protocols, designed maps using ArcMap and Illustrator, and analyzed human health concerns existing from hazardous substances and human safety concerns from building deterioration and active live military training. My work on the historical significance of the site, panoramic view over the Anchorage area and Cook inlet from Mount Gordon Lyon, and adjacent state recreation lands have resulted in federal, state, and local interests regarding management.
Camp Le Monier Antiterrorism Base; Djibouti, Africa
I provided GIS support to U.S. Naval Facilities Engineering Command Headquarters in conducting a multi-media compliance evaluation (External Quality Assessment) at Camp Lemonier to assist expansion and transition of the facility to a Navy owned and managed base. I created building designs using AutoCAD with focus areas on storage tank management, used oil management, solid waste, pollution prevention and recycling, infectious waste, hazardous materials, pesticides, and potable water. My final maps were designed using ArcMap and Illustrator.
