My name is Stuart Fleming and I am currently completing my third year in the Human Geography program at the University of British Columbia. My goal in writing in this forum is to explore any volunteer/employment opportunities someone might have or know about for a mature student looking to improve and expand his knowledge in GIS applications. I have taken introductory and intermediate courses in GIS and have recently completed an introductory course in cartography which also utilized GIS. I am currently employed part time as a research assistant at UBC which involves some map work but it is quite infrequent. Should my qualifications not meet the requirements of any advanced positions on your team then please consider me for any entry level/internship opportunities. I am driven to succeed in whatever I put my mind to. I am passionate about mapping applications like GIS and its ability to integrate interests that range from planning and engineering to public health, recreation and academia. I am looking for an opportunity to apply my passion to a position that not only encompasses all of my interests/skills but also offers some excellent growth opportunities. For a detailed listing of my background (i.e. a formal resume and cover letter) please contact me at
