Job Description
Houston Advanced Research Center (HARC) is a not-for-profit environmental research facility. As an applied scientific institute, our mission is to move knowledge to action to improve human well-being and the environment. HARC is located in The Woodlands, Texas, 30 miles north of Houston. Duties include, but are not limited to: Create digital mapping products for use in technical reports, proposals, project websites and presentations; Design, create and maintain interactive mapping applications for distribution via internet; Perform quantitative and statistical analyses on geospatial datasets; Manipulate and analyze remotely sensed data (e.g. satellite imagery, DOQQs,etc); Manipulate and combine geospatial datasets using standard techniques; Conduct quality assurance of geospatial data sets; Create metadata for geospatial datasets using established metadata standards; Organize and maintain geospatial data library to assist HARC research staff; Collaborate with HARC research staff to develop research ideas and data analysis methodologies; Contribute to project reports and proposals by writing data documentation and descriptions of data analysis protocols; Communicate verbally and in written form with HARC staff and outside partners.
Qualifications
Education: BS/BA or MS in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Biology or related disciplines.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years experience
Skills: REQUIRED - ArcGIS, ArcIMS, ArcServer/SDE, and other ESRI products; ERDAS, ENVI or related image analysis tools; ability to perform in a team environment. PREFERRED - Google Maps and Google Earth; Geobrowser technology
