INTERNATIONAL GIS SPECIALIST
ARD, Inc. (www.ardinc.com) has an immediate home office staff opening for a full-time GIS Specialist to join its growing Geospatial Technology Group. The group provides geospatial expertise in multiple international development projects. This position requires an individual who is technically capable and experienced in the application of GIS from mobile thru server configurations, understands that the implementation of GIS is dependent upon proactive outreach to clients and colleagues and is capable of working around the world in sometimes challenging conditions.

The candidate’s responsibility will be to support the application and continued expansion of the firm’s GIS activities across our business sectors;
Environment and Natural Resource (ENR)
Agriculture
Governance and Institutional Development

Information and Knowledge Management
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications
* Appropriate Masters degree required.
* High level proficiency the ESRI ArcGIS product suite and capable of learning additional GIS or image processing software packages, and comfortable working with other, non-spatial, database systems.
* Must have experience customizing and/or developing GIS tools and web applications using ArcGIS Server or ArcGIS Engine
* Experience implementing FGDC Metadata standards within a Professional Geo-database
* Ability to contribute technical knowledge and skills, in addition to his/her GIS and related skills, to one or more of ARD’s sectors as listed above, from his/her academic area of specialization.
* Minimum 5 years post-master's professional overseas experience in relevant applications area(s), which may include spatial planning and management, as well as spatial data analysis.
* Proven success in generating significant business in the area of GIS and in his/her area of academic study, outside of academic research grants, with a focus on the international donor agencies.
* Fluent in at least one foreign language; Arabic, Spanish or French preferred.
* Solid writing skills with a proven ability and interest in leading the development of proposals and in generating new business.
* This position will involve overseas travel of short- and medium-term assignments.
* Must possess effective time management skills and the ability to multi-task
* Strong interpersonal communication skills.
* High level of reliability and follow-through.
* Very strong organizational skills and high attention to detail.
* Must be comfortable working in a fast paced and sometimes intense work environment.
* Must be an energetic and enthusiastic collaborative team player.
* U.S. citizenship or a valid U.S. work permit is mandatory.
This position is based in ARD's home office in Burlington, Vermont, located on the shores of Lake Champlain between the Adirondacks and the Green Mountains and only minutes from Vermont's finest ski slopes.
