The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) is a regional agency of the state of Florida, and is charged with managing and protecting water resources of the region by balancing and improving water quality, flood control, natural systems and water supply. SFWMD's boundaries extend from central Florida to Lake Okeechobee, and from coast to coast, from Fort Myers to Fort Pierce, south through the sprawling Everglades to the Florida Keys and Florida Bay.
The Senior GIS Data Steward is formally responsible for the creation and maintenance of spatial data and metadata that will be broadly distributed and used through a centralized spatial data warehouse. The Senior GIS Data Steward is the authority for specific spatial data sets. Stewardship responsibilities may include hydrologic (Arc Hydro), land cover/land use, aerial photography, topographic, cadastre, and transportation data sets. Extensive working knowledge in ArcGIS and considerable experience designing and building spatial data sets is required. Successful experience managing large volumes of GIS data and experience developing and maintaining spatial metadata is required. This position reports to the GIS Data Manager and cooperates with other Senior GIS Data Steward positions to meet enterprise spatial data needs.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will typically have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, GIS, Remote Sensing or related field and 6-8 years of related experience. A valid State of Florida driver's license is required. Candidates who previously applied remain under consideration and need not reapply.
