Located in northern Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Superior, Ashland is a moderately progressive community with exceptional local schools. The City of Ashland's GIS Technician position will assist the City Engineer and the GIS Coordinator in the development and maintenance of the geographic information system (GIS) data layers and databases related to the City's water distribution, waste water collection, storm sewer system, streets, sidewalks, trails, transportation signals/signing, and parks, and other work as assigned.
Ideal candidates will: be self-motivated; possess initiative; demonstrate attention-to-detail; be knowledgeable of GIS, global positioning systems, and computing in general; and have the ability to communicate effectively.
Starting wage is $18.63 per hour with an excellent fringe benefit package, including Wisconsin retirement and life, health and dental insurance. Following successful completion of a six-month probationary period, the wage will be increased to $19.19 per hour; with required one-time union initiation fee of $10.00 and $32.55 dues per month deducted.
Qualifications
Qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree (preferred), or an Associate's Degree plus a minimum of two (2) years experience, in geographic information science; geography; cartography; planning; landscape architecture; earth/physical sciences; natural sciences; civil engineering; land surveying; computer science; or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience that meets these minimum requirements may be considered.
Compensation
$18.63 - $19.19 per hour
